Title |
55 Laurens Street (James Jervey House) |
Scope & Content |
Constructed ca. 1818; rehabilitated 1980s. With its placement on a high brick basement and its double-house form, this dwelling presents a larger-scaled, more urban plan than other houses in the Ansonborough district. Although its windows were changed to two-over-twos in the mid-19th century and the property changed to condominiums in the 1980s, the Flemish-bond building retains much of its exterior integrity, including belt courses, quoins, and cornice. The stair windows in the center bay on the front indicate that, unlike other houses in the city, the stair runs toward the street front instead of toward the rear. File contains mentions of the house in three Preservation Progress articles (1961, 1965, 1969); photocopy of ARP photograph. |
