    Constructed ca. 1800; altered mid-19th century. A native of the Bordeaux region of France, Jewish merchant Abraham Sasportas immigrated to Charleston by 1778. After amassing numerous properties, including slaves and town lots, Sasportas returned to France in 1818, leaving his wife behind and providing her with a residence on Queen Street.
