Scope & Content |
Gives guidance on the improvement of the appearance of King Street, with consideration for understanding the merchandising needs and financial limitations while at the same time respecting the architectural integrity of the buildings. In two file folders: Folder 1 contains "Final Record of Study," consisting of Parts A (project summary) and B (historical profile by Robert P. Stockton). "A Historical Profile" includes descriptions of the history, the merchants, the architecture, notes, and selected building histories (327-329 King, 336-338 King, 337-339 King, 341 King, 345 King, 363-365 King, 381 King). Folder 2 contains brochure for "King Street Facade Program" and Part C (preliminary design packages). Includes introduction, the resource, the historical streetscape, the commercial building unit, facade design parameters, storefront design parameters, typical visual problems, blockscape analysis, preliminary design recommendations, contract document guidelines, materials conservation information. By Preservation/Urban Design Inc. (preliminary design consultant) and Chambers and Chambers (architectural photography consultant); coordinated by the City of Charleston. A project funded through the Historic Preservation Program of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History with the assistance of a matching grant from the Department of the Interior and additional funding the Community Development Block Grant Program. |
