Title |
50 King Street (John Cowan House) [a/k/a 6 Price's Alley] |
Scope & Content |
Constructed 1729-1730; restored mid-20th century. This house is of similar fenestration to its neighbor at 52 King Street (Edgar Wells House), and both are among the earliest datable dwellings outside the former walled city, considered to be precursors of the standard Charleston single house. This dwelling is of a two-room "hall-parlor" plan with a staircase rising along the rear wall of the hall. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.) File contains house history from Information for Guides of Historic Charleston; chain-of-title and other historical research notes (undated, unattributed), including photocopies of some deeds. |
