The Case of Major Fanshawe's's Chairs - Loughlin, David

In 1974, five Chippendale chairs were brought to Sotheby's by Major R.G. Fanshawe, who knew nothing of their origin, and arousing the curiosity of the antiques world by setting a record of $207,500. Major Fanshawe had found them in a Georgian house near Dublin bequeathed him by a friend. After a series of discoveries and other evidence, it was determined that the chairs were linked to the Cadwalader house in colonial Philadelphia.
