Public Monument Conservation Project - Inventory

The Public Monument Conservation Project was an inventory of significant statuary and monuments all over the U.S. Works of historical or artistic importance were catalogued into a national database to provide a listing of sculptural heritage. Funded by a grant from the J. 96 Murray Boulevard is a white Southern Colonial style dwelling with 2-story portico. 98 Murray Boulevard was built in 1943; a pressed brick, white pilastered house with a pedimented gable. No additional house histories on file. Needs further research. File contains scant chain-of-title research notes for 96 Murray Boulevard (1916-1939) and for 98 Murray Boulevard (1935-1958). 10-12 Murray Boulevard (Cheves Houses) - Property File

Constructed 1916. McCrady Brothers, architects. In 1916, Henry Cheves built these matching two-story, curvilinear-gable-ended houses for his son, Henry Cheves, Jr., and daughter, Charlotte Cheves Hardison, on two newly reclaimed lots on Battery (now Murray Boulevard). These stucco-on-wire frame houses reflect an eclectic late-Queen Anne style reminiscent of 17th century Jacobean architecture. (Poston, Buildings of Charleston.)
