Constructed ca. 1893. A pressed-metal hood supported by console brackets and matching window lintels and cornice ornament this 3-bay, side-hall plan, bay windowed dwelling. William Holmes, proprietor of Holmes, Calder and Company, Charleston's leading paint and oil dealer and manufacturer, built this house as a rental unit in 1893, replacing an earlier house on the site. This property was held as an investment by his family for 81 years.
