|Title||129-135 Ashley Avenue (Halsey Lumber Company Houses)|
|Object Type||Property File|
|Scope & Content||
Constructed ca. 1910-18. These Queen Anne style dwellings were built by the Halsey family, who acquired the Bennett Mill property in the late-19th century. With the filling of the mill pond in the 1880s and 1890s, new lots were created for the construction of dwellings. 133 Ashley Avenue was sold to David B. Hyer, one of Charleston's leading early-20th century architects, who probably designed his own house at the time he opened his practice in 1912.
